Art

The intent of our primary school art curriculum is to inspire creativity, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts. We aim to provide all pupils with the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic techniques, materials, and traditions, enabling them to develop their artistic skills, confidence, and individuality. Through a well-sequenced and progressive curriculum, we encourage children to experiment, take risks, and discover their own creative potential.

Our art curriculum covers key areas including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital media, allowing pupils to experience a variety of art forms and techniques. Pupils will also study significant artists, movements, and cultures from different times and places, helping them develop an appreciation for the diversity and richness of the visual arts across history.

We emphasise the development of fine motor skills, visual literacy, and the ability to critically evaluate and reflect on both their own work and that of others. Children will be encouraged to express their ideas and emotions through their artwork while learning about the elements of art—such as line, colour, form, and texture—and how to use them effectively.

Through engaging and creative projects, we aim to nurture imagination and originality, promoting a growth mindset where children are confident to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them. By the end of primary school, pupils will have developed not only technical skills but also an appreciation for the role of art in culture and society, with the ability to think critically, communicate visually, and explore their own creative ideas.

Key Aims:
