Computing

The intent of our primary school Computing curriculum is to equip pupils with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to use technology safely, creatively, and effectively. In an increasingly digital world, we aim to provide children with a solid foundation in computing, preparing them to be responsible digital citizens and empowering them to engage with technology in meaningful and innovative ways.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure pupils develop a wide range of ICT skills, including coding, word processing, digital content creation, data handling, and safe internet use. By introducing key concepts such as algorithms, programming, and computational thinking, we encourage children to think logically and solve problems, laying the groundwork for future digital literacy.

We emphasise the importance of e-safety, teaching pupils how to navigate the online world responsibly and understand the risks and benefits of digital technology. Through age-appropriate lessons, pupils will learn how to protect their personal information, make informed decisions online, and recognise the impact of digital behaviour on others.

Through engaging projects and activities, children will have opportunities to explore creative and practical applications of technology, such as designing digital presentations, creating simple animations, or researching using the internet. These experiences will help pupils build their confidence in using a variety of digital tools and applications.

By the end of primary school, pupils will have developed a strong understanding of how to use their computing skills responsibly and effectively, along with the skills to continue developing their digital proficiency as they move on to secondary education.

Key Aims:

  • Develop essential ICT skills, including coding, digital content creation, and data handling.
  • Foster problem-solving and computational thinking through programming and algorithms.
  • Promote e-safety and responsible online behaviour in a digital world.
  • Encourage creativity and confidence in using a range of digital tools and applications.
  • Prepare pupils to be adaptable, informed, and responsible users of technology in the future.
