School Council
What is a School Council?
Our School Council is a group of pupils who represent the views of all children across the school. It provides an opportunity for them to have their voices heard and to play an active role in the school community. Council members help make decisions about school life and lead projects that support learning and personal development—such as leading projects to improve our school, organising charity events, planning theme days and representing the school at external events.
Pupils are elected to the School Council by their peers each autumn term, following a thorough election process in which candidates present their manifestos and share their ideas for making a positive impact on school life.
Who is our School Council?
Our School Council is made up of two representatives from each class across Years 3 to 6.
The following pupils are on this year’s School Council;
Class 3 - Grace and Oliver
Class 4 - Ella-Rose, Yousaf and Dei
Class 5- Sophie and Ciel
Class 6 - Joseph and Finlay
School Council Elections
Each autumn term, pupils take part in a school-wide election process to select new School Council representatives. Those wishing to stand begin by campaigning and creating manifestos to share their ideas and priorities. Candidates then present their manifestos to their class, explaining how they would represent pupil voice and contribute to school life. This leads up to Election Day, when all pupils cast their votes in a formal ballot. We aim to make this process as authentic as possible to help pupils understand the principles of democracy, the importance of their vote and how these values prepare them for life in modern Britain.
School Council Projects
As part of their work to improve lunchtime provision, the School Council gathered feedback from pupils through questionnaires and shared their ideas with Mrs O'Driscoll. Following these discussions, the first stage of improvements was implemented, based on the children's suggestions. This led to the introduction of OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), which has added even more variety, choice and enjoyment to lunchtimes.
